Serigraph on Paper
12"x18"
I made this piece called “Choppers” a few years ago. It is in dialogue with Edna Manley’s “Diggers”. I believe as artists we must continue tradition by referencing those who have come before and from a young age making art, Ive always been drawn to Manley’s figurative works across mediums. This image is a reimagining of Diggers but instead of men hoeing the ground, we see wom(a/e)n chopping, for the work continues. The lack of context does afford the viewer to ponder what exactly is being chopped - is it grass, weeds, or “the line”?
We all have our trade.
The original is a serigraph on canvas and approx 28”x42”
